The short version: Use SmithNet for legitimate network research and engineering work. Don't use it to attack or probe systems you don't own. These tools are provided free with no guarantees — use them at your own discretion.
Acceptance
By using smithnet.dev, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the site. That's it.
What SmithNet Is
SmithNet provides free network intelligence tools — IP geolocation, DNS lookup, WHOIS/RDAP, SSL certificate checking, MAC vendor lookup, subnet calculation, and ping/traceroute. These tools are designed for engineers, developers, students, and IT professionals doing legitimate network research and troubleshooting.
Acceptable Use
You may use SmithNet to:
- Look up information about domains, IPs, and networks you own or are authorized to investigate
- Troubleshoot network issues for your own infrastructure
- Research publicly available network and certificate information
- Learn about networking concepts and protocols
- Build tools and applications using the SmithNet API (when available)
Prohibited Use
You may not use SmithNet to:
- Probe, scan, or attack systems you don't own or have authorization to test
- Conduct reconnaissance for malicious purposes
- Automate lookups in ways that abuse free-tier rate limits (scraping)
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, overload, or disrupt the service
- Violate any applicable laws, including computer fraud and unauthorized access statutes
No Warranty
SmithNet is provided "as is" without any warranty. We make no guarantees about uptime, accuracy of results, or fitness for any particular purpose. Data comes from third-party APIs and may occasionally be incorrect, outdated, or unavailable.
Don't make critical infrastructure decisions based solely on SmithNet results — always verify with authoritative sources.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, SmithNet and its operators are not liable for any damages arising from your use of the service — including direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.
Rate Limits & Access
The free tools on smithnet.dev are subject to rate limits imposed by third-party APIs (typically 100 requests/day per IP for ping/traceroute). We reserve the right to block IPs that abuse the service or violate these terms.
API access (when available) is subject to plan-specific limits outlined in your subscription agreement.
Changes
We may update these terms at any time. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance. The "last updated" date at the top will reflect any changes.
